Ralf Little, best known for his role as Detective Neville Parker on the hit TV series Death in Paradise, recently shared insights into his upcoming live tour with longtime friend and co-star Will Mellor. During an interview on Matt Tebbutt’s Saturday Kitchen, the beloved actor revealed the unusual safety measures the duo has implemented to prevent any on-stage mishaps.
An On-Stage Safety Net
Little shared that he and Mellor have put unique precautions in place to ensure their live performances go smoothly. The most notable feature? A massive red buzzer placed near Ralf. “Will being Will, there’s a very strong chance that at any moment, he’s going to say something that could get us both cancelled,” Ralf explained. The buzzer, operated solely by Ralf, cuts off Will’s microphone when needed and activates a series of sirens, ensuring their live show remains entertaining but safe.
Adding another layer of precaution, the duo has a red telephone on stage that connects directly to their producer. “If something unexpected happens, the producer can step in,” Little clarified. Despite these mechanisms, he joked, “The buzzer and the phone go off more than they should!”
Life After ‘Death in Paradise’
During the same interview, Ralf touched on his exit from Death in Paradise. Having portrayed Detective Neville Parker for five years, he became the show’s longest-serving detective. “It felt like my character’s story had been told,” he said. Working closely with producers, he agreed that it was the right time to conclude Neville’s journey. “It might have been possible to do another season, but it wouldn’t have felt organic,” Ralf added. He expressed that Neville’s story ended in a “beautiful, poignant way.”
