A running club in Glasgow is helping women feel safer when exercising at night. Jodie Hall started Sculpt Run Club in April last year. The club aims to create a welcoming safe space for females to socialize and make new friends while running.
Jodie Hall, a personal trainer at women’s gym Sculpt in Bishopbriggs, initiated the club. The club has been beneficial for women who may have otherwise skipped night-time runs due to safety concerns.
Sculpt Run Club is free to attend and takes place at 6pm on Wednesday evenings at Hogganfield Loch. The club provides a social and safe environment for around 15 women on average each week.
Jodie mentions that prior to starting the club, running at night in winter left her feeling scared. However, having company during the runs has changed that experience for her and the other members.
Jodie encourages the setup of more similar clubs around the city to help women feel less intimidated. She emphasizes the importance of female-only spaces in fostering connections and support among women.
She also highlights the need for more beginner-friendly social groups in Glasgow.
