From November 6 to 8, 2024, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre will host the 32nd Hong Kong International Optical Fair, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) in collaboration with the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA). This year’s theme, ‘Seeing is Believing’, emphasizes cutting-edge eyewear designs and products, aiming to forge new business connections among industry participants.
Sophia Chong, the Acting Executive Director of the HKTDC, remarked that this year’s fair is more international than ever, featuring over 700 exhibitors from 17 different nations and regions. She highlighted the evolving landscape of eyewear technology and design, with exhibitors aligning their offerings with key trends that include technology, lifestyle, functionality, and sustainability. With Hong Kong being the world’s third-largest exporter of eyewear, the exhibition is not just a showcase of products but an illustration of the city’s strengths as a global trade and procurement hub.
The total export value of eyewear lenses and frames from Hong Kong is projected to reach HK$199 billion in 2023, indicating significant industry growth. Notably, the smart eyewear sector has emerged as a focal point, with the global market exceeding HK$40 billion and expected to top HK$100 billion by 2029. A diverse range of exhibitors from Europe, America, and Asia will present their latest innovations during the fair.
This year’s Optical Fair will host numerous group pavilions, featuring notable regions such as Mainland China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. The Brand Name Gallery, a key highlight of the event, will showcase over 200 well-known global brands. Additionally, various zones will be dedicated to different eyewear categories, including Smart Eyewear, Contact Lenses, Accessories, and more, ensuring a comprehensive display of industry advancements.
On November 7, the 22nd Hong Kong International Optometric Symposium will take place, jointly organized by the HKTDC, the Hong Kong Optometric Association, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. This year’s symposium will focus on myopia control and prevention, featuring insights from scholars across Mainland China, Hong Kong, Australia, and Germany. Attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance as this symposium is recognized as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program.
In addition, the fair will provide various talks and seminars addressing topics such as smart eyewear, sustainability, and the latest advancements in the eyewear industry. To stimulate creativity and innovation in Hong Kong, the HKTDC and HKOMA are also hosting the 24th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition under the theme ‘Be Bold,’ with results to be announced during the fair. Winning designs will be exhibited in The Forum Hall 1D.
An innovative hybrid model has been established for exhibitors and attendees, allowing online meetings through the Click2Match business matching platform until November 15. Buyers can also utilize the Scan2Match feature in the HKTDC Marketplace App to engage with exhibitors, view product information, and browse various offerings before and after the event.
With an emphasis on functionality, sustainability, and lifestyle, the exhibitors are set to unveil many notable products that reflect current trends in the industry. The Optical Fair stands as a vital platform for the eyewear community to network, discover, and expand their market reach.
