Fans of the critically-acclaimed series Better Call Saul have been eagerly awaiting news of a possible return for the beloved show. However, Bob Odenkirk, who brilliantly portrayed the slick and morally ambiguous lawyer Saul Goodman, has cast doubt on the possibility of a revival.
Would a ‘Better Call Saul’ Comeback Happen?
Speaking to Today, the 62-year-old actor shared that the show’s creators, Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, are focused on developing new projects. Odenkirk stated, “I think they’ve all moved on to some more amazing projects that you’ll soon see.” Despite this, he expressed that he would love to reprise his iconic role if the opportunity arises.
He added a note of finality to Saul Goodman’s story, saying, “If there’s another Saul, it would take place inside prison. He’s not getting out.” This is a nod to the show’s finale, in which Saul accepts accountability for his crimes and is sentenced to 86 years in prison.
The Role That Changed Everything
Odenkirk reflected on the impact of playing Saul Goodman, describing the role as transformative for both his career and personal life. “That part turned my life around, and I’ve given more to that part than anything I’ve done,” he admitted. Bringing Saul’s layered personality, shady deals, and witticisms to life earned the actor numerous accolades and a broader fan base.
Odenkirk is now embracing lighter roles, noting, “I’m fine with moving on. After playing intense characters for years, it’s refreshing to focus on other narratives.”
Vince Gilligan’s New and Exciting Sci-Fi Drama
While Saul may not be making a comeback, series co-creator Vince Gilligan is preparing for the release of his highly-anticipated Apple TV+ project, Pluribus. The genre-bending drama, featuring Rhea Seehorn (another Better Call Saul alumnus), is slated for release on November 7. Described as an original take on saving the world, it promises to intrigue fans with its mix of emotion and science fiction.
