A health expert has shared two effective methods for enhancing the appearance of eyelashes, making them thicker and shinier. Dr. Eric Berg, a specialist in keto and intermittent fasting, advises combining specific minerals and oils for optimal results.
In a recent YouTube video, he explained that eyelashes are primarily made of protein, which requires trace minerals to form amino acids. A deficiency in a specific type of prostaglandin can lead to thin or lost eyelashes. Dr. Berg recommends using ricinoleic acid and zinc to combat this deficiency.
Zinc is vital for several aspects of hair growth, including protein synthesis, collagen formation, and androgen regulation, which influences eyelash regrowth. Quality zinc supplements are widely available at pharmacies, with suggested daily intakes of 9.5mg for men and 7mg for women, according to NHS guidelines.
Additionally, castor oil, rich in ricinoleic acid, can help eyelashes appear thicker and glossier by moisturizing them, aiding in reducing breakage. It is crucial to use organic, cold-processed castor oil and to avoid contact with the eyes. Routine application using a cotton swab is advised.
Dr. Berg emphasizes the importance of addressing such symptoms at their root rather than simply covering them up.
