In a candid revelation, renowned broadcaster Zoe Ball has expressed her doubts about leaving her lucrative position as the host of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show. The 54-year-old media personality stepped away from the show, which paid her £950,000 a year, back in December to dedicate more time to her teenage daughter, Nelly, who is now 15. However, Zoe recently shared that she often finds herself questioning whether her sacrifice was worth it, particularly as Nelly seems to be out with friends more often than at home.
During an episode of the Parenting Hell podcast, Zoe shared her thoughts, stating, “I gave up work because she’s going to do her GCSEs but she’s never there. She’s out with her mates. I’m like, ‘I’ve given up work for you’.” Despite these feelings of confusion, Zoe also expressed the joy of being able to engage more in her children’s lives. “I’ve made sure that I’m at shows and matches and stuff like that. But it’s only since giving up the breakfast show that I now do the school run in the morning, and I love it,” she explained.
Her son Woody, now 25, added that he’s noticed a significant lifestyle change in his parents since Zoe left the radio waves. “It’s very funny to see that transitional period, just as I’m kind of leaving the nest and now at the start of something big for me in music,” Woody noted, referring to how both Zoe and his father, Norman Cook, also known as Fatboy Slim, have taken up quieter hobbies like gardening and doing puzzles.
Despite the challenges of family life, Zoe remains committed to being present for Nelly during her formative teenage years, emphasizing the importance of support as Nelly navigates the pressures of adolescence, which she describes as an “absolute mind-fielder” for girls at that age.
As every parent knows, striking the right balance between work and family can be incredibly challenging. If you’re looking to manage stress during this transitional phase, consider investing in self-care products. One such product that can help you unwind is the Clarins Multi-Active Night Cream. This cream is designed to nourish your skin while you rest, promoting a sense of overall well-being to help you face those parenting challenges.
While Zoe grapples with her decision, both mother and son appear optimistic about the future. Perhaps this time spent together will strengthen their family bonds just as Zoe faces a new chapter in her life.
