A fast-moving wildfire razed the historic Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Rim. Park officials reported the lodge, visitor center, gas station, and other structures were lost along with employee housing. Two separate wildfires, White Sage Fire and Bravo Dragon fire, were active near the North Rim with the latter causing the lodge’s destruction. The park had initially controlled the blaze but had to switch to suppression due to its rapid spread. The release of chlorine gas, from the burning water treatment plant, forced evacuations in the inner canyon due to health hazards. Progress was made in containing another fire north of the Grand Canyon, with some areas under control but challenges persist with the fire spreading rapidly towards the Vermilion Cliffs area.
