Vantage Data Centers has officially commenced construction on a $2 billion data center campus in New Albany, Ohio, marking its inaugural significant infrastructure project in the Midwest. Located near Columbus, the campus will cover 70 acres, featuring over 15 million square feet of space and 192 megawatts of IT capacity, thereby establishing Ohio as a vital hub in the global cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors. The initial building is projected to be completed by late 2025, in line with Vantage’s growth strategy aimed at meeting increasing needs for secure and sustainable data facilities.
The choice of New Albany—an emerging area in Ohio—aligns with the region’s thriving tech industry and favorable market trends. Vantage’s expansion into Ohio is part of a broader initiative to assist hyperscale clients—major technology companies needing scalable data storage solutions—while serving a strong customer base requiring reliable, low-latency digital infrastructure. Ohio’s central location offers logistical benefits, attracting more tech investments and fostering a competitive landscape for technology-related construction and jobs.
This project is also in harmony with Vantage’s goal of achieving net-zero operational carbon emissions across its facilities by 2030. The New Albany campus is designed with energy-efficient features focusing on cooling innovations and renewable energy options, aiming for LEED Silver accreditation. In addition to sustainability, Vantage plans to enhance local workforce development, partnering with Columbus State Community College and the New Albany Community Foundation to create training programs tailored for the data center sector. These initiatives are intended to cultivate a skilled workforce in an industry facing talent shortages, demonstrating Vantage’s commitment to establishing a lasting community presence, which local officials view as a valuable contribution to Ohio’s tech ecosystem.
