Emma Niblett, 36, and her husband Dan, 40, felt trapped in a repetitive cycle in the UK and sought more fulfilling experiences as a family. They decided to make a significant change by renting out their home and relocating to Bali in August 2024. For the past three months, they have been living there while their sons, Noah, 8, and Isaac, 5, attend a pop-up school where they learn about local culture and citizenship.
The family has traveled to Sydney, Australia, and explored Bali, with plans to visit New Zealand and Japan over Christmas. They aim to continue their world schooling journey as they travel through Vietnam and Borneo. Emma and Dan are working remotely to fund their travels, discovering that their family lifestyle is considerably cheaper than in the UK.
Emma, a technology head from Leeds, shared that their expenses have reduced significantly, often spending only £40 to £50 for memorable outings, compared to £100 to £150 in the UK. The daily stressors of chores and grocery shopping have disappeared in Bali, allowing them more quality family time. They plan to travel for a year before potentially returning to the UK, depending on their children’s enjoyment. Follow their journey on Instagram @theniblettfamily.
