Triple M has firmly dismissed reports suggesting they are planning to cancel their Sydney breakfast show, The Beau, Cat & Woodsy Show, despite a challenging seven months since its launch. The show, hosted by Beau Ryan, Aaron ‘Woodsy’ Woods, and Cat Lynch, has been grappling with low ratings and internal changes.
Speculations Surrounding Ratings and Lineup Changes
Since its debut in January 2025, The Beau, Cat & Woodsy Show has undergone significant changes. In February, just six weeks into the program, newsreader Natarsha Belling departed unexpectedly, prompting the recruitment of former Nova presenter Cat Lynch. Despite this adjustment, the show’s ratings have continued to decline.
The latest radio ratings survey revealed a 1.5% drop in market share, leaving the show at only 4.4%, down from its initial 5.9%. This decline is part of a broader ratings issue for Triple M across all Sydney timeslots. Amid this challenging backdrop, rumors emerged that veteran comedian Merrick Watts might step in to host the breakfast show. Watts, a beloved figure among Triple M listeners, previously headlined a popular drive-time show and temporarily filled in for Beau earlier this year.
Triple M Refutes Claims of Major Changes
Despite the speculation, a spokesperson for Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), which owns Triple M, refuted claims of any impending changes. “Speculation about changes to the Triple M Sydney Breakfast lineup is categorically false,” they stated. They also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining “one of the most consistent lineups of live and local breakfast shows across Australia’s metro markets.” Additionally, the spokesperson denied rumors of Merrick Watts and former collaborator Tim Ross (of Merrick and Rosso) reuniting on the program.
Challenges and Advertiser Fallout
Triple M has faced additional challenges this year, including an advertiser boycott following controversial remarks made by veteran presenter Marty Sheargold about the Matildas in February. Sheargold, who was ultimately let go from the station, drew widespread criticism for his comments, threatening the station’s revenues and reputation.
Meanwhile, Natarsha Belling has transitioned to podcasting with LiSTNER’s The Briefing, following her abrupt departure from Triple M. Announcing her new role on Instagram, she expressed enthusiasm about joining the Afternoon Edition team.
The Road Ahead for Triple M
As The Beau, Cat & Woodsy Show navigates its ratings challenges, Triple M continues to stand by its lineup and programming strategy. While rumors about reshuffling persist, the station appears focused on stabilizing its audience and addressing advertiser concerns.
