Tommy Fury has opened up about his challenging journey following his split from Molly-Mae Hague, as well as his path to personal growth. The couple, who met on the 2019 season of the hit ITV show Love Island, had captured the nation’s hearts. After finishing as runners-up, the pair moved forward with their relationship, eventually getting engaged and welcoming their daughter, Bambi.
However, the couple experienced a rough patch last year and announced their split in August. Molly-Mae issued a statement stating their relationship had ended, marking a significant chapter of change. Rumors of reconciliation began to surface when the duo shared a family photo with Bambi in April, prompting fans to speculate about their rekindled romance. Molly-Mae later revealed in her Amazon Prime Video docuseries, Behind It All Part II, that they were taking things slowly, emphasizing their relationship was “worth saving.”
Tommy’s Honest Reflections in His New Documentary
The new BBC documentary series, Tommy: The Good. The Bad. The Fury, scheduled to air on Tuesday, August 19, offers a deeper insight into Tommy’s personal struggles. In the opening episode, viewers hear from Tommy’s father, John Fury, who revealed he once encouraged Molly-Mae to leave Tommy. Reflecting on that time, Tommy candidly admitted, “I mean, I probably would’ve walked away from me too. It was a tough moment in my life, but everything happens for a reason.”
Tommy revealed that the hardships helped him grow and better understand himself. “I’m not happy I went through that, but I’m grateful for the lessons that came out of it,” he shared.
Overcoming Challenges and Battling His Demons
Another raw and revealing aspect of the documentary is Tommy’s struggle with drinking. He reflected on a dark period, saying, “Suddenly, one day, you find that all you can do is sit down, have a few drinks, and feel the pain slip away. You forget where you are and what’s going on.” He acknowledged that over time, this became a problem. “Now, when I look at that person from back then, I don’t even recognize him. That’s just not me anymore,” he said.
Tommy also noted that these struggles negatively affected his family life. When Molly-Mae and Bambi briefly moved out, Tommy called it “the moment” that pushed him to make significant changes. “You think, ‘Oh no, nothing’s wrong, it’s not a problem.’ But it is a problem, and everybody else can see it apart from you. When you accept that and move on, that’s when real healing begins,” he stated.
Praising Molly-Mae and Focusing on Family
Despite their challenges, Tommy spoke highly of Molly-Mae and her role as a mother. “I couldn’t have picked a better mother for Bambi than Molly. She’s absolutely fantastic. She juggles so much, yet she’s always there for us. She’s the best mother I could hope for,” he said, expressing admiration and gratitude for his fiancée.
The documentary is set to give fans an intimate look at Tommy’s journey of self-improvement and how he continues to work towards being a better partner and father. Tommy: The Good. The Bad. The Fury debuts on Tuesday, August 19, at 9 pm on BBC Three and will also be available on iPlayer.
