Tenchijin Inc, a startup comprised of former JAXA engineers, has developed an innovative solution to tackle the critical challenges in water maintenance systems across Southeast Asia, particularly Japan. With issues such as aging infrastructure and climate change exacerbating leak detection problems, Tenchijin launched the COMPASS KnoWaterleak. This cloud-based mapping service employs satellite data and AI technology to aid water utilities in detecting leaks more efficiently.
The COMPASS KnoWaterleak system amalgamates data from various satellites, open resources, and digitized water supply records to pinpoint areas at high risk of leakage within 100-meter blocks. Its user-friendly interface allows for centralized leak risk management and on-site verification, enabling fast data access and enhancing leak detection and repair planning.
After a successful proof of concept with the Japanese government in 2022, municipalities utilizing the service have noted potential reductions in inspection costs of up to 65% and survey times by 85%. Recognized for its effectiveness, Tenchijin Inc has expanded its operations to Malaysia, aiming to proliferate Japan’s advanced technology across Southeast Asia from their Cyberjaya office.
