Teddi Mellencamp, star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, recently opened up about the passing of Brandon Blackstock, former husband to singer Kelly Clarkson, and how it has impacted her personally. Blackstock tragically passed away on August 7 after a three-year battle with melanoma, a type of skin cancer Mellencamp herself has been fighting since her diagnosis in 2022.
Personal Reflections Shared on Her Podcast
During a recent episode of her podcast Two Ts in a Pod, co-hosted alongside Tamra Judge, Mellencamp described her reaction to the news of Blackstock’s death, calling it a deeply emotional experience. “It really hit me hard,” the 44-year-old shared with listeners. She elaborated, “I wish I had avoided seeing that detail online because it led me to do a lot of research, which made the situation even more overwhelming.”
Blackstock’s melanoma had reportedly metastasized, which Mellencamp and Judge speculated on during their discussion. Mellencamp admitted to wondering if the late talent manager had possibly declined certain treatments or had chosen to keep his battle private. “I respect their decision to handle it the way they did,” she remarked.
A Shared Journey with Cancer
Since her initial melanoma diagnosis in March 2022, Mellencamp has undergone numerous treatments, including 16 surgeries and immunotherapy, to combat the deadly disease. Earlier this year, the reality star endured the removal of four brain tumors as part of her ongoing battle.
Talking about the physical and emotional toll, Mellencamp recently took to social media, writing, “Feeling better and not taking it for granted. Having cancer has broken my heart but has taught me so much about myself.” Despite her challenges, she remains determined to maintain a sense of normalcy and positivity in her life. “I’m back to work after taking last week off,” she shared in a July 29 Instagram update, adding that allowing herself to rest symbolized personal growth.
A Call for Awareness
Brandon Blackstock’s passing and Teddi Mellencamp’s personal struggle highlight the urgent need for greater awareness around melanoma and the importance of early detection. Mellencamp continues to advocate for regular skin checks and vigilance, using her platform to shed light on the realities of battling cancer. Whether through her podcast or social media, she demonstrates resilience and strength that resonates with her followers and inspires many in similar situations.
