In a shocking incident in Sydney’s inner-west, a shooting outside The Harold gastropub in Forest Lodge on Sunday left one man dead and another critically injured. Police have since launched an investigation into the brazen attack, believed to be linked to organized crime.
A Violent Ambush Leaves a Community in Shock
The incident, which occurred at approximately 6:35 PM, saw up to 15 gunshots ring out on Ross Street, startling diners inside the historic pub. Reports indicate that two men were targeted as they walked towards their parked car located just 100 meters from the venue. The assailants fled the scene, leaving a trail of chaos and fear behind.
Maradona Yalda, 31, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. His condition has since been downgraded to stable. Tragically, his friend Gilbert Shino, 39, succumbed to his injuries at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics and an off-duty doctor who provided immediate help.

According to police sources, Maradona Yalda had arrived back in Australia just four days prior, aware of a potential threat to his life. Yalda reportedly has connections to the Assyrian street gang DLASTHR and the former Comanchero bikie member Andre Kallita, who has since left the club. However, there is no suggestion of wrongdoing on Yalda’s part.
Authorities are investigating multiple motives for the attack, including a possible internal dispute among gang members or ties to a recent firebombing in Sydney’s west. Superintendent Alf Sergi of Leichhardt Police confirmed that the victims had been ambushed as they left the pub and approached their vehicle.
Community Safety Concerns Following Violent Incident
Local residents were urged to stay indoors as the area was cordoned off for police investigations. Witnesses reported hearing dozens of gunshots and seeing alleged assailants escape on foot. A dark-colored vehicle, believed to be connected to the crime, is currently being sought by authorities.
Superintendent Sergi emphasized the severity of the situation, describing the attack as “outrageous, brazen, and callous.” He also noted the potential danger to innocent bystanders, as a stray bullet narrowly missed a staff member inside the pub.
The State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad is working closely with local detectives to piece together the details of the incident. Police have not ruled out the possibility of multiple gunmen being involved.
Authorities Appeal for Public Assistance
Police are urging anyone with information, including dashcam footage from the area, to contact Crime Stoppers immediately. Residents are reminded that even small details can provide crucial leads in solving this case.
As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, hoping for swift action to bring those responsible to justice. Updates are expected to be provided by authorities later this week.
