State Bank of India (SBI) will implement nominal charges for Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) fund transfers exceeding Rs 25,000 conducted via online channels from August 15 onwards. The charges, ranging from Rs 2 to Rs 10 based on the transfer amount, will be subject to GST. However, salary package account holders and specific current account categories are exempt from these fees. The changes apply only to online transactions, with no modification in charges for IMPS transfers at bank branches. For online transfers above Rs 25,000 but below Rs 1 lakh, a charge of Rs 2 will apply. Transfers in the range of Rs 1-2 lakh will incur a fee of Rs 6, while transactions between Rs 2-5 lakh will carry a charge of Rs 10. Goods and Services Tax will be applicable on these charges. Corporate customers will see these revised charges starting September 8, 2025. SBI also confirmed that IMPS transaction fees will remain waived for certain current account categories when conducted online, such as Gold, Diamond, Platinum, Rhodium, government departments, and autonomous or statutory bodies.
