Maclean Brothers Set Sail for a Worthy Cause
The Maclean brothers, Jamie, Ewan, and Lachlan, have embarked on an incredible journey across the Pacific Ocean, aiming to set a record while raising funds for essential clean water projects in Madagascar. Their expedition, which began in April, will see them cover approximately 9,000 miles, showcasing not just their physical endurance but also their commitment to making a difference.
Challenges Faced at Sea
Originally expected to complete their journey in 120 days, the brothers have experienced delays due to challenging weather conditions, extending their time at sea to 140 days. This remarkable feat is undertaken aboard their custom-built carbon fiber vessel, the Rose Emily, where they had to manage their resources carefully, bringing 500kg of food for sustenance.
Support for a Global Cause
Their journey is not just about personal achievement; it aims to raise £1 million for clean water initiatives through The Maclean Foundation, founded by the brothers and their father, renowned whisky writer Charles Maclean MBE. Remarkably, they have already raised over £700,000 and continue to garner support from fellow Scots and international celebrities, including actor Mark Wahlberg and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
A Unique Expedition
With no support boats or resupplies, the brothers row in two-hour shifts to navigate the open ocean. Their venture not only highlights their teamwork but also reflects a larger conversation about environmental sustainability and the importance of clean water access in communities worldwide.
