A trio of adventurous Scottish brothers, Ewan, Jamie, and Lachlan Maclean, are on the brink of making history as they approach the completion of their nearly 140-day journey rowing across the Pacific Ocean from Peru to Australia. As they make their way to Cairns Marlin Marina, anticipation builds for their arrival this Saturday. Originally expected on Friday, adverse weather conditions have delayed their expected finish, but the excitement remains palpable.
The brothers embarked on this incredible journey in April aboard their custom-built carbon fiber vessel, aptly named ‘Rose Emily’, with a mission not only to conquer the ocean but to raise funds for vital clean water projects in Madagascar.
Throughout their expedition, the Maclean brothers have endured a staggering 9,000 miles at sea, a feat characterized by physically demanding conditions and sheer willpower. This venture aims to raise £1 million for their philanthropic initiative, The Maclean Foundation, a charity they established with their father, renowned whisky writer Charles Maclean MBE.
In their pursuit, the brothers have already raised over £700,000, garnering celebrity support from the likes of actor Mark Wahlberg and Flea, the bassist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their camaraderie and dedication are inspiring not only to their followers but also to residents of the Chamberlain Care Home in Edinburgh, who have taken up rowing lessons to show their support.
The brothers, who previously made headlines for becoming the fastest and youngest trio to row across the Atlantic Ocean in 2020, have met this challenge head-on, rowing in two-hour shifts and managing their supplies carefully, bringing 500kg of food for their journey, including a range of high-calorie comfort meals.
As they culminate this historic row, the Maclean brothers’ passion for adventure and philanthropy shines through. If you’re inspired by their journey, check out the Hydro Flask 40 oz Wide Mouth Water Bottle, perfect for ensuring you stay hydrated during your own adventures!
