Banijay Americas’ A Fábrica Mexico & U.S. Hispanic has announced the appointment of award-winning producer and writer Santiago Zapata as the Scripted VP. This newly launched label, formed in a partnership between Endemol Shine Boomdog and Brazil’s A Fábrica earlier this year, aims to produce high-quality scripted content for the Mexican, Latin American, and U.S. Hispanic markets.
A Fábrica’s Mission and Zapata’s Role
Santiago Zapata will oversee all aspects of scripted development and production at A Fábrica’s headquarters in Mexico City. Known for his innovative approach and creative vision, Zapata brings a wealth of experience from his time at Ntertain Studios/Neon16, founded by music moguls Tommy Mottola and Lex Borrero. During his tenure there, he led the film and TV division based in Miami. His portfolio includes collaborations with high-profile names like Will Smith, Thalia, and Big Sean, as well as substantial projects for platforms like Disney+, Netflix, and Paramount+.
At Ntertain Studios, Zapata contributed to critically acclaimed productions such as Disney+’s “Los Montaner,” Netflix’s “La Firma,” and Paramount+’s “Thalia’s Mixtape.” He is currently producing a feature-length documentary on Tommy Mottola, a legendary music executive who shaped the careers of artists like Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez.
Leadership and Vision
In his new role, Zapata steps into the shoes of Jerry Rodriguez, who recently moved on from the position. According to Luiz Noronha, president of A Fábrica Mexico & U.S. Hispanic, “Santiago is a storyteller at heart and brings deep creative experience as an executive, along with a forward-thinking enthusiasm as a producer. His collaborative spirit and client-focused vision will keep us aligned with our partners and the audiences we aim to serve.”
A Promising Slate of Projects
A Fábrica has ambitious plans under Zapata’s leadership. Following the recent announcement of a partnership with renowned writer Leonardo Padrón to launch Leonardo Padrón Productions, the label is gearing up to release a slate of premium Spanish-language drama series across the U.S., Mexico, and Latin America. These projects, defined by compelling storytelling and cultural resonance, are slated for rollout later this year.
Santiago Zapata’s Vision
Reflecting on his appointment, Zapata expressed gratitude and excitement for the opportunity. “I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to join A Fábrica at such an exciting time. Not only does this represent a major step in my career, but it allows me to grow alongside a team I truly admire,” he said. “I look forward to trusting my instincts and creating stories that genuinely connect with audiences.”
With Zapata’s track record and creative vision, A Fábrica Mexico & U.S. Hispanic is set to make a lasting impact on the Latin American and U.S. Hispanic entertainment landscape.
