A Richard Madeley lookalike competition baffled Stockport locals over the weekend as the winner turned out to be Larry the pug, causing social media speculation.
The unexpected victory of the Good Morning Britain presenter’s lookalike contest surprised many, with only 16 official entries to the event organized by ‘Mrs Jones’. The contest took place at Stockport’s Alexandra Park, attracting around 200 attendees on Sunday.
Larry the pug, donning a wig, proudly posed for winning photos with nine-year-old Molly Glover and her mother Louise. Other finalists included Arthur Hassall, Paul Lockitt, and Kate Trevor, who all shared a snapshot.
Earlier, mystery flyers promoting the competition mysteriously appeared, sparking excitement in the local area with prizes offered to the top three lookalikes. Nicci Owen, the owner of a park coffee shop, mentioned the buzz around the flyers before they vanished from notice boards.
Speculations arose on social media following the announcement, amid Richard Madeley facing changes at Good Morning Britain due to ITV’s programming alterations. Despite initial reports of him being axed, negotiations led to a new part-time contract, significantly reducing his hours and pay.
Similar shake-ups affected Lorraine Kelly, advised to retire but choosing to complete her contract before leaving ITV for good by the end of the upcoming year.
Richard’s recent health concerns, including a wrist injury, further highlighted his challenges, as he shared about his accident while on holiday.
