Renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, a two-time Oscar-winning director, recently shared insights into his cinematic career on “The Church of Tarantino” podcast. In a candid interview, Tarantino discussed his favorite film, his best work, and the movie he believes defines his unique style of filmmaking.
Tarantino Reveals His Favorite and His Masterpiece
“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is my favorite,” Tarantino revealed. “But I think Inglorious Basterds is my masterpiece.”
The celebrated director elaborated further, explaining his passion for Kill Bill. “Kill Bill is the ultimate Quentin movie. Nobody else could have made it. Every element of it is ripped from my imagination, my loves, my passions, and my obsessions. It’s the movie I was born to make,” he said.
Reflections on Screenwriting and Directing
Tarantino also shared how he views his screenwriting and directing achievements. “I think Inglorious Basterds is my best script,” he remarked, also praising the direction of The Hateful Eight. “There’s an aspect of The Hateful Eight that I think is probably my best directing of my material. The foundation was solid, and I was able to deliver on it as a director.”
Why Tarantino Passed on a Sequel
It came as a surprise when Tarantino revealed that David Fincher will helm the highly anticipated sequel to “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” titled “The Adventures of Cliff Booth.” Tarantino admitted he passed on the project, citing feelings of creative stagnation. “The idea of my 10th and final film being a sequel just unenthused me,” he explained. “This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory.”
The Cancelation of ‘The Movie Critic’
During the interview, Tarantino reflected on his long-rumored 10th film, The Movie Critic. He explained that the project was ultimately scrapped due to its similarities with his previous work, particularly Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. “There was nothing to figure out. I already knew, more or less, how to turn L.A. into an older time. It was too much like the last one,” he said.
As Tarantino prepares to embark on his final film, fans eagerly await what the acclaimed director will bring to the table. A self-proclaimed master storyteller, Tarantino continues to leave an indelible mark on the world of cinema.
