A 5.6-magnitude earthquake rocked Queensland over the weekend, marking the strongest onshore quake in 50 years. Tremors were felt from Hervey Bay to parts of northern New South Wales, leaving thousands of residents surprised early on Saturday morning. The epicentre was located roughly 200 kilometers north of Brisbane at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to Geoscience Australia.
Seismologist Michelle Salmon noted that aftershocks are likely, with one minor tremor already reported late Saturday evening but too small to pinpoint accurately. About 20,000 people felt the initial tremor, with 13,000 properties briefly losing power.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Trevor Doyle, whose body was found in Slacks Creek Reserve Park, south of Brisbane. Doyle, aged 29, sustained significant injuries before being discovered on a park footpath last Wednesday morning. The accused, Daniel Roger Ramsey, faces multiple charges, including breaching a domestic violence order and drug-related offenses.

Brisbane’s Annual Ekka event saw its highest turnout in nearly two decades, with over 425,000 attendees visiting the 10-day event.
