
One of the founder members of Manchester’s notorious Quality Street Gang, Jimmy ‘The Weed’ Donnelly, has passed away at the age of 84. His family shared that he peacefully passed in a care home, surrounded by loved ones, after battling cancer since 2019.
Jimmy was a prominent figure in the QSG, with a colorful past that spanned his involvement in Manchester’s underworld from the 60s to the 80s. He gained further fame through a Thin Lizzy song dedicated to him and even authored an autobiography in 2011.
Known for his diverse career path from a life of crime to legitimate businesses, Jimmy ‘The Weed’ Donnelly was a complex character. He had connections with well-known personalities such as Phil Lynott and George Best, showcasing his vast network in the city.
