Protesters gathered outside a hotel housing asylum seekers in Canary Wharf amidst fresh ant-migrant demonstrations. The Britannia International Hotel in London is being used to accommodate hundreds of asylum seekers, sparking chaotic protests after being handed over to the Home Office by Tower Hamlets Council. Police were deployed as the protest began, with demonstrators ordered to stay on the pavement opposite the hotel.
Photos from the event depict demonstrators carrying England flags, ‘stop the boats’ signs, and colored smoke flares. Several individuals, including a masked topless man, were detained by police following recent arrests. A young woman attempted to storm the hotel with a meat cleaver after finding an asylum seeker in her mother’s flat.
Meanwhile, in Ashington, protesters congregated to voice their concerns regarding ‘illegal immigrants’ in the area, demanding their safety be recognized by the Government. The demonstration organized by ‘British Unity’ featured calls for the removal of illegal immigrants and an end to housing practices impacting future generations.
Protesters also demanded mass deportations and cessation of boat arrivals. MP Ian Lavery urged responsible behavior during protests and highlighted the divisive rhetoric surrounding immigration issues in recent months. He emphasized the need to address core societal challenges without scapegoating vulnerable populations.
