BOISE – A month ago, Nora Hayd was just another Boise State student-athlete. The 20-year-old enjoyed her visual arts classes, painting, and taking photo shoots around the Treasure Valley while gearing up for her second season with the Boise State beach volleyball team. Fast forward to today, her life has changed significantly. Hayd has gained nearly 9,000 followers on Instagram and recently taught the rock band Simple Plan how to play volleyball at a Las Vegas music festival.
After going viral on social media in early October, following a striking photo that showcased her unique goth style, life took a remarkable turn for Hayd. The NCAA’s decision to allow athletes to profit from their Name, Image, and Likeness has opened new doors. Soon after her viral moment, she launched her merchandise line, featuring graphic tees and hoodies, which quickly became bestsellers.
Hayd has also engaged with brands like Liquid Death and Pit Viper, striving to involve her teammates in these initiatives. While she never sought fame, she values the inspiring messages she receives from fans. As interest grows, Hayd remains hopeful for the future of Boise State beach volleyball, especially with the program’s upcoming move to the Pac12 in 2026, highlighting its potential for growth.
