The UK’s Fourth Heatwave of 2025 Comes to a Close
After weeks of basking in sunshine and enduring temperatures above 30°C, the UK’s fourth heatwave of 2025 is finally coming to an end. The Met Office, in its latest update, has issued a ‘gentle reminder’ about a significant shift in weather patterns as summer transitions into autumn.
A Summary of Recent Conditions
Throughout the past week, many regions across the UK met the official heatwave criteria set by the Met Office: temperatures remaining above 25°C for at least three consecutive days. In Greater Manchester, as well as other parts of the north, this threshold was met with peaks starting on Monday, August 11.
However, as we approach late August, cooler weather conditions are beginning to settle in, particularly in northern and eastern parts of the UK. In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Met Office noted: “After weeks of warmth, this week brings a change in the air. Expect largely settled conditions, but with a gradual dip in temperatures, especially across the north and east. Cooler days. Chilly nights. A gentle reminder that autumn is waiting in the wings.”
Looking Ahead: What to Expect
According to meteorological data, autumn officially begins on September 1. The forecast for the coming days indicates temperatures hovering in the low-to-mid-20°C range in Greater Manchester, with a peak of 24°C predicted at 4 PM on Monday, August 18.
The Met Office’s long-range forecast for the period between August 22 and August 31 points to “changeable conditions.” Initially, high pressure will dominate, bringing dry and fine weather accompanied by cooler northerly winds. However, systems from the Atlantic are expected to move in, potentially bringing unsettled weather.
Additionally, a deep low-pressure system developing in the North Atlantic is being monitored. This phenomenon—linked to Hurricane Erin—could influence weather conditions across the UK, particularly in northern and western regions. Though there is a chance of wetter and windier weather, the evolution of this low-pressure system remains uncertain.
Get Autumn-Ready: Essential Preparation Tips

Layering will be key to staying comfortable during the cooler mornings and evenings. Lightweight jackets, scarves, and sweaters will help you navigate fluctuating conditions.
Stay hydrated and nourished with herbal teas that are perfect for chilly evenings. For care tips, consider upgrading your nighttime skincare routine to combat dryness caused by cooler air. Products like the Olay Regenerist Night Cream are excellent for locking in hydration while you sleep.
