Martha Stewart’s ex-husband, Andrew Stewart, alongside his wife Shyla Nelson Stewart, has addressed claims made by Martha in the upcoming Netflix documentary, Martha. In the trailer for the film, Martha accused Andrew of having multiple affairs during their 29-year marriage, while also admitting to her own infidelities. Martha stated, “Young women, listen to my advice, if you’re married and your husband starts to cheat on you, he’s a piece of s… Get out of that marriage,” reflecting on their troubled relationship from 1961 to 1990.
In a Facebook post shared ahead of the documentary’s release, Shyla stated, “This is my first and will be my only public comment on this subject.” She described Andrew as a “brilliant publisher” and “one of the gentlest, kindhearted men” she has ever known. Shyla remarked on their deep, lasting love that blossomed after a 12-year friendship.
She also addressed the struggles Andrew faced during his former marriage to Martha, which she described as “painful and abusive.” Shyla emphasized the joy and love she and Andrew now share, contrasting it with Martha’s ongoing public commentary about their past. In the documentary, Martha recounts personal experiences, including her own extramarital affairs, while Andrew later married one of Martha’s former assistants.
