
A remarkable fitness journey has captivated the world as Li Shuangyong, a 36-year-old man from China, completely transformed his life and body through an intense 1,000-day workout challenge inspired by the Japanese anime series One Punch Man.
The Inspiration Behind the Challenge
The rigorous exercise routine, based on Saitama, the powerful protagonist of the popular manga series, consists of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10-kilometer run every single day. Saitama’s near-limitless strength inspired Mr. Shuangyong to embrace this extraordinary challenge during a difficult chapter of his life. After the collapse of his fish farming business left him in debt and his marriage ended, he sought solace and motivation in the teachings of the anime.
“I had to save myself. I could not keep living like that. It could not get any worse,” he shared with Jiupai News. His mission was to “amplify hope without limits.”
A Journey of Resilience and Transformation
Mr. Shuangyong began his journey in August 2021 with minimal resources, a pair of £1.10 running shoes, and a modest diet consisting mainly of eggs and instant noodles. He documented his progress through daily training videos, which quickly gained popularity across China. His authenticity and perseverance resonated with fans, inspiring some in Taiwan to join him on his runs virtually through live streams.
As his following grew, sponsors began supporting his efforts, providing him with proper running shoes and supplements. By July 19, 2025, Mr. Shuangyong had completed the grueling routine, logging over 20,000 kilometers and performing hundreds of thousands of repetitions of the exercises. In celebration, he honored Saitama by shaving his head and donning the character’s iconic costume.
Worldwide Recognition and Future Goals
Mr. Shuangyong’s accomplishment even garnered recognition from the creator of One Punch Man, who congratulated him on his incredible willpower. Now, he has set his sights on a new challenge: aiming for a Guinness World Record by running a marathon every day for an entire year. His relentless dedication continues to inspire people worldwide, proving that with determination, anyone can overcome adversity.
