Dozens of firefighters are battling a blaze in southwest London, forcing a popular dining street to be cordoned off. The London Fire Brigade received multiple calls just after 10.30 am on Sunday about a fire in a building on York Street in Twickenham.
The fire erupted near Church Street where a Twickenham 60s Day event is ongoing. Eight fire engines and crews from Twickenham, Richmond, Heston, and surrounding stations are currently responding to the incident. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
The LFB has deployed two of their 32m ladders to support the firefighting operations. York Street, located in the center of Twickenham near York House Gardens, hosts various eateries, pubs, and popular restaurant chains. According to a statement from the LFB, parts of the building with a commercial space and flats above are currently on fire.
