Shark Attack at Cabarita Beach
An early morning shark attack at Cabarita Beach, located at Norries Headland in New South Wales (NSW), led to the closure of the beach. A large chunk was bitten out of a surfer’s board just after 7:30 am. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. The local council promptly issued warnings, coordinating with Surf Life Saving NSW to deploy aerial drones for monitoring potential shark activity.
The surfer, whose board displayed a visibly large bite mark, stated he was fortunate to escape unharmed. Photos from the scene confirmed the severity of the attack. Surf Life Saving officials are urging citizens to remain cautious, as this is the second shark-related event at this location in less than two months. Nearby signage and barriers are currently in place to keep swimmers and surfers safe.
Qantas Penalized $90 Million for Illegal Sackings
In a landmark ruling, the federal court imposed a $90 million penalty on Qantas for unlawfully terminating 1,820 ground-handling employees during the turmoil of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Vanessa Hudson, the airline’s CEO, acknowledged Qantas’ accountability for the significant hardship caused to its workforce and their families during that period.
Hudson stated, “We sincerely apologize to everyone affected. The decision holds us accountable and reaffirms our commitment to regaining trust.” The news has reignited debates over corporate responsibility and the role of government oversight during times of crisis.
