Meanwhile, Tameside councillors Alison Gwynne and Claire Reid, who were also suspended for six months, have now been reinstated into the Labour fold.

Speaking on his resignation, Coun Sedgwick remarked, “I just reached the end of my tether with it really. It was my decision and there’s no ill feeling or malice.” In contrast, Coun Martin expressed apologies to anyone offended by her involvement, citing personal reasons for stepping away.

A Labour spokesperson clarified, “These matters have been investigated thoroughly in line with the Labour Party’s rules and procedures. The Party will not hesitate to take action against members falling short of our high standards, and investigations remain an ongoing priority.”

Despite being cleared of any direct involvement in the WhatsApp group, Ricci stated he was given a formal warning for speaking publicly about the scandal. “For these reasons, I’ve decided to resign from the Labour Party while continuing as an independent councillor representing my community,” he said.
