Actress Katherine LaNasa, star of the critically acclaimed medical drama The Pitt, recently opened up about her challenging scenes, Emmy nomination, and personal journey during the HBO Emmy Nominees celebration in Hollywood.
The Challenges of Filming Season 2
During the event, LaNasa shared insights into one of the most “disgusting” scenes she filmed for the upcoming second season of The Pitt. In Episode 2, she portrays Dana Evans, the emergency room charge nurse at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. “There was something I did already [for Season 2] and I told the producer that I think I needed some jewelry for it. Like he needed to give me some diamonds,” she said humorously. “It’s disgusting. You’ll see.”
LaNasa also recalled struggling with medical terminology for her role. “The most challenging word I’ve had to say is ‘campylobacter,’” she admitted. According to the Cleveland Clinic, a Campylobacter infection is a common bacterial cause of diarrhea, typically linked to undercooked poultry, raw milk, and untreated water.
Facing Personal Challenges on Set
Before being cast in The Pitt, LaNasa was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. She revealed how her diagnosis influenced her initial experience on the show’s hospital sets. “When I first walked onto the set, I was a little triggered because, after you have cancer, all you do is go to the hospital,” she explained. “I was only about six months out of going to the hospital when I got the job, and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m back at the hospital.’ But the feeling went away really quickly.”
