Famed YouTube personality Jake Paul, known now as an amateur boxer, shared that Anthony Joshua, former two-time heavyweight world champion, had shown him considerable support when they met in Dubai two years ago. At that time, Paul was gaining popularity in the boxing world with victories over Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, and Anderson Silva under his belt.
The two athletes were in the Middle East for different reasons. Paul was there for a break following his fight with Silva, while Joshua was there either for training or a holiday. During his time there, Paul trained with Lawrence Okolie, a friend of Joshua’s, and even participated in a laser tag game with him.
Paul, speaking with Anthony Pompliano on his podcast in 2022, expressed his appreciation for the respect he received from big names in the boxing world such as Roy Jones Jr., Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, and Anthony Joshua. He added that their praises meant more than any online backlash.
In a reversal of roles, Paul is currently preparing to get in the ring with Mike Tyson, former undisputed world heavyweight champion, on November 15 in Texas. Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua recently suffered a defeat at the hands of Daniel Dubois at Wembley in September.
