A private consortium in India has been chosen to design, build, and operate the country’s first Earth Observation (EO) satellite network of 12 satellites under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. In a significant development, this initiative is set to boost India’s data sovereignty and reduce reliance on foreign imagery, with all satellites manufactured, launched, and controlled domestically. This dynamic project, expected to require an investment exceeding Rs 1,500 crore, aims to provide high-resolution geospatial data for various national and global applications including climate monitoring, disaster response, agriculture, and national security.
