A recent study from the Karolinska Institute sheds light on the continuous generation of new neurons in the hippocampus, the brain’s memory hub, well into late adulthood. Scientists have confirmed the presence and activity of neural progenitor cells, indicating a process of ongoing neurogenesis. These discoveries offer promising insights for the development of regenerative therapies targeting neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders by unveiling the brain’s adaptability across the lifespan. The study was led by Professor Jonas Frisén at the Karolinska Institute and published in the journal Science.
