The tragic death of 13-year-old Casey-Louise has shocked the community of Huddersfield and beyond. The teenager’s body was discovered on Monday, August 11, at a flat in Sheepridge Road, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Emergency services immediately transported her to the hospital, but she sadly passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, August 12.
A Community in Mourning
Casey-Louise’s family has been left devastated, describing her as their ‘beautiful princess.’ In a touching online tribute, a family member shared, “Suddenly and totally unexpected, on Tuesday 12th August, our beautiful Casey-Louise gained her angel wings. Our family is absolutely devastated by this news. Can you please respect our privacy and give us time to grieve as a family.”
Casey-Louise was originally from Manchester and had been in local authority care. At the time of her death, she had been living in Liverpool and was visiting Huddersfield. She was a pupil at Mossley Hollins High School in Manchester where her teachers and peers have expressed their sorrow over her loss.
Details of the Investigation
The West Yorkshire Police launched a murder investigation shortly after her death. A 16-year-old boy, who was arrested on suspicion of rape and murder, has since been released on conditional bail. Detectives have also linked Casey-Louise’s case to the alleged rape of another 16-year-old girl in Kirklees. A police spokesperson revealed, “A post-mortem was not able to determine how she died, and we continue to treat her death as unexplained at this time.”
Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson confirmed that the inquiries are ongoing, noting their complexity. “Specially trained officers are supporting her family at this time,” DCI Atkinson stated. Friends, relatives, and community members have expressed their support for Casey-Louise’s grieving family during this difficult time.
An Outpouring of Support
Tributes have continued to pour in online as people expressed their shock and sorrow. One family member wrote, “Goodnight princess. I love you and miss you lots.” Another shared, “I didn’t think I’d be writing this so soon. I love you forever, my girl. I’ll forever miss you.” A fundraiser was also initiated by Tina Cooper to help cover the costs of Casey-Louise’s funeral. “Casey was a vibrant, happy 13-year-old with all her life ahead of her. No one should have to bury their child,” Tina expressed.
A Town in Shock
The news has left the community grappling with grief. Huddersfield MP Harpreet Uppal said, “This is a tragic case and my thoughts remain with the 13-year-old teenager, her family, and friends. I have been in contact with the police and am being updated on the investigation.”
Though the investigation continues, Casey-Louise’s family is urging the public to respect their privacy as they grieve the loss of their beloved daughter. The circumstances surrounding her death serve as a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of community support in times of tragedy.
