Google has unveiled a new feature called Web Guide on its Search platform. This feature categorizes information and groups URLs, making it easier for users to explore topics. It is an opt-in feature currently available in specific locations.
The company shared details about this experimental feature in a blog post. Users can access it in Search Labs by selecting the Web Guide option. While some reports have mentioned this feature, it may not be visible to all users as it is typically rolled out in the US first before reaching other regions.
Users who have access to the feature can opt-in to see a new filter on the Google Search results page known as the “Web” filter. Positioned next to the “All” option, this feature intelligently organizes search results to enhance the user experience.
The Web Guide feature dissects complex search queries, presenting key points for users to explore. It then categorizes URLs based on these points, providing a summary from the linked pages in each section.
Google states that Web Guide is supported by a custom version of Gemini, which improves search query understanding. By leveraging the “query fan-out technique”, similar to the AI Mode, relevant results can be identified by issuing related search queries simultaneously.
Initially, users can access this experimental feature by selecting the Web tab on Search. The traditional results will be displayed under the All tab, accompanied by AI Overviews. Google plans to integrate this version of results into the All tab in the future for enhanced user assistance.
