Chief Minister Pramod Sawant disclosed in the House that 15 criminal cases were filed against illicit recruitment agencies in Goa for overseas job scams since 2022, leading to 15 arrests. The number of cases has surged from two in 2022 to six in the first half of 2025. Currently, seven cases are awaiting trial and six are under investigation. In response to concerns raised by MLA Sankalp Amonkar regarding exploitative practices by recruitment agencies, the government has implemented awareness campaigns in police stations and enhanced coordination with the Protector of Emigrants office. The government is set to take action against identified illegal agencies. However, MLA Vijai Sardesai demanded immediate actions, including prosecution, against the implicated agencies before the session concludes. Additionally, there are calls to establish a sub-office of the Protector of Emigrants in Goa for better oversight, as it currently falls under the jurisdiction of the Karnataka office.
