Goa has implemented stringent safety measures for aero sports activities following a tragic paragliding incident. Operators of paragliding, paramotoring, hot air balloons, and drones are now required to provide Rs 25 lakh accident insurance coverage for each pilot and passenger. Additionally, registration with the tourism department is compulsory to ensure compliance. Violations of the safety regulations can lead to fines of up to Rs 2 lakh and potential arrest. The move comes after a recent paragliding crash that resulted in the unfortunate loss of a tourist and an instructor. The insurance policy must cover accidental death, disability, medical expenses, and Rs 5 lakh for equipment. Furthermore, paragliders and paramotors need to carry yearly safety certificates, and paramotor engines must be DGCA-approved. A designated technical panel will certify pilots and oversee flying sites, restricting flights to daylight hours.
