In a recent update at the state legislative assembly in Porvorim, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant revealed that onshore and offshore casino operators collectively owe the government more than Rs 350 crore. Responding to opposition leader Yuri Alemao’s query, Sawant emphasized that the major share of dues is attributed to onshore casinos. The chief minister mentioned that notifications and reminders have been dispatched to all defaulters. Presently, Goa accommodates 18 onshore and six offshore casinos, with three non-functional onshore establishments owing almost Rs 250 crore. Sawant highlighted that certain operators fell behind in payments due to the impact of the Covid pandemic.
