A horrifying home invasion in Kew East, one of Melbourne’s wealthiest neighborhoods, has left a 39-year-old father hospitalized with severe injuries. The violent incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, saw five masked intruders storm the family’s Oxford Street residence, wielding weapons, including a machete.
Terrifying Home Invasion in Melbourne
According to Victoria Police, the attack took place just after 4 a.m. while the man and his wife were asleep. The armed intruders forced their way into the couple’s home, violently separating them into different rooms. Reports state that the father attempted to confront the attackers but was overpowered. He suffered multiple stab wounds to his head, face, and arms during a brutal struggle.
The mother, meanwhile, was held captive in the bedroom alongside her two young children, who are just two and three years old. Miraculously, the toddlers were unharmed, though their mother sustained minor injuries, including cuts and bruises.
Grandparents Injured During the Ordeal
The terrifying incident also saw the grandparents, aged 69 and 70, injured as they attempted to intervene and assist the father. Both were later taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being discharged.
Quick Response Leads to Arrests
The masked offenders made their escape from the scene, with four fleeing in the victim’s BMW while the fifth left in the vehicle they arrived in. The stolen luxury car was later abandoned on Christie Street in Deer Park. Police acted swiftly, tracking three suspects—an adult man and two teenagers, aged 16 and 17—to a location on Hamilton Street. The trio has since been charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated home invasion, intentionally causing serious injury, and false imprisonment. However, two suspects remain on the run.
Community Shocked by Violent Attack
Detective Sergeant Leanne Trussler, who is leading the investigation, described the attack as “awful” and deeply distressing. “This is a place where a family should feel safe. To wake up at 4 a.m. with masked intruders in your home is something no one should ever experience,” she said. The father remains in the hospital and will require surgery for his injuries, including a fractured arm and significant damage to his face and eye.
This shocking incident highlights ongoing concerns about home security even in affluent suburbs. While investigations continue, authorities encourage residents to take every measure to secure their homes and report suspicious activities immediately.
