At least three individuals lost their lives, and another eight were injured due to an appalling incident involving multiple gunmen inside a Brooklyn dining establishment. The tragic episode occurred during the early hours of Sunday morning at Taste of the City Lounge located in the Crown Heights district.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, in a press briefing, mentioned that the deceased were three males aged 27, 35, and an unspecified age, withholding their identities. Emergency services swiftly transported the wounded to nearby medical facilities with their condition unconfirmed post the 3:27 am shooting. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, and there have been no arrests made.
Tisch divulged that 36 shell casings were retrieved from 903 Franklin Avenue, the crime scene. Additionally, a separate firearm was found at the corner of Eastern Parkway, potentially linked to the brutal act. Video surveillance captured the sight of three men fleeing the site right after the vicious triple homicide.
Commissioner Tisch commented during her address that this incident, although dreadful, is considered a rare occurrence amidst the decreasing crime rates witnessed in New York. She emphasized the city’s remarkably low numbers of shooting incidents and victims thus far this year.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams and mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani are yet to release statements regarding the tragedy, while former Governor, and Mamdani’s electoral opponent, Andrew Cuomo was the first to respond, labeling the incident as another tragic mass shooting within NYC.
The establishment where the shooting transpired, Taste of the City Lounge, specializes in Caribbean cuisine, boasting a hookah bar and live DJ performances. Situated less than half a mile away from the iconic Brooklyn Museum, the lounge concluded operations at 2 am on Sunday, just an hour and a half before the violent incident.
Crime data reveals that while murder and shooting figures are at historic lows in New York City, overall major felonies remain elevated compared to pre-pandemic levels.
