The devastated family of a 13-year-old girl whose death prompted a murder and rape investigation have paid a moving tribute to their beautiful girl. Casey-Louise, originally from Mossley in Greater Manchester, has been named as the teenager who tragically died on Tuesday, August 12. She was found unresponsive at a flat in Huddersfield.
Following the discovery of her body, West Yorkshire Police launched a rape and murder investigation. Earlier this week, a 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection to her death. The Mossley Hollins High School student was named in a tribute from a family member on Friday, who wrote: “Suddenly and totally unexpected, on Tuesday 12th August our beautiful Casey-Louise gained her angel wings. “Our family is absolutely devastated by this news. Can you please respect our privacy and give us time to grieve as a family.”
Casey-Louise had been living in Liverpool at the time of her death, and had been visiting Huddersfield the day before she died. It is understood she was in the care system. She was found unresponsive at the flat in Sheepridge Road and was taken to a hospital where she later died.
The boy arrested on suspicion of rape and murder, and a separate rape reported in Kirklees, was released on conditional bail earlier this week. A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said at the time: “Detectives are working to fully understand the circumstances of the girl’s death which is being treated as unexplained after a post mortem could not establish how she died.”
Enquires into both crimes remain ongoing by detectives. The Force’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team is spearheading the investigation, which police have described as being “complex” and “likely to be lengthy”.
The news of the youngster’s death has sent shockwaves through the town. Huddersfield MP Harpreet Uppal said: “This is a tragic case and my thoughts remain with the 13-year-old teenager and her family and friends. I have been in contact with the police and I am being updated on the investigation.”
