Estelle Davenel, creator of the Hope Day fashion brand, has reached millions with her inclusive clothing line dubbed Atypique, which integrates elements of fashion and art. This blend not only represents a piece of apparel but also symbolizes emotion and beauty that her clothing line has imbibed.
Davenel’s brand is original and inclusive, offering ready-to-wear clothing like t-shirts, sweats, and accessories showcasing braille inscriptions. This development was initiated four years ago when Davenel, at the age of 28, was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease causing optic neuropathy and progressive vision loss. Departing from her human resources management role at the National Marine School, she ventured into fashion.
In response to her vision impairment, Davenel transformed her adversity into an opportunity and began designing clothing encapsulating short braille messages. With phrases like ‘Unchain my heart’, her tactile system of writing stands out while also displaying essential details like color and size. Davenel’s logo, an anchor, is another noteworthy symbol representing her hometown’s surrounding sea.
Davenel has also teamed up with several establishments and services to aid people with disabilities. She has given away her unique t-shirts to the cast of the film ‘Un ptit truc en plus’, attracting the attention of French President Emmanuel Macron. Amid direct sales and online orders, Davenel also dreams of opening up her own shop and hiring people with disabilities. Through her brand, Hope Day, Davenel aims to promote awareness about disability and popularize braille writing.
