On Tuesday, Day 389 of the ongoing conflict, the Israeli military intensified its bombardment of the Gaza Strip, particularly in isolated northern regions, resulting in the deaths of numerous Palestinians, including many children and women. The assault, ongoing for more than 25 days, has particularly devastated Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, and Jabalia, where over 100,000 Palestinians remain under severe siege.
In Beit Lahia, strikes on the homes of the AlOmari and Abu Obeid families resulted in the deaths of at least seven Palestinians, while a five-story residential building owned by the Abu Nasr family was hit, killing over 77 individuals. Many others were critically injured, and rescue efforts were hampered by continuous bombing and destruction.
The Israeli army also targeted the AlFakhoura school in Jabalia, burning it, while simultaneous strikes led to casualties across the region. Reports indicate that at least 36 Palestinians were killed in one day due to the aerial and artillery assaults. Casualties have mounted significantly, with over 43,000 Palestinians reported dead since the conflict escalated on October 7, 2023.
Furthermore, the Israeli Knesset passed a law that effectively bans the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) from operating in Israel, raising concerns from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres regarding the implications for Palestinian refugees.
