Actress Emma Stone recently opened up about an unforgettable and somewhat embarrassing moment from the 2011 Golden Globes in a new interview with Vogue. Now 36, Emma reflected on the night she brought her mom, Krista Stone, as her date—and found themselves seated at the same table as Hollywood royalty Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
A Fun Yet Embarrassing Encounter
Emma, known for her role in the upcoming film Poor Things, hilariously recounted how her mom asked Angelina Jolie if she had any kids—even though it’s widely known that Angelina and her ex-husband Brad share six children together.
“That was a really, really fun night,” Emma shared. “The Golden Globes is this glamorous event with big, round tables, and you feel like you’re constantly bumping into celebrities you’ve only seen on TV or in movies.”
She added a lighthearted note about her experience meeting stars in person: “Everybody’s shorter than you think they are—except for Conan O’Brien, who’s seven-and-a-half-feet tall.”
The Champagne Incident
Emma previously shared more details about the night during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2020. Recalling the encounter, she said, “Of all people to be sitting next to at that kind of show, whoa.”
According to Emma, her mom rarely drinks alcohol but decided to indulge in a bit of champagne during the event. “She was definitely having a wonderful time,” Emma quipped, adding that her mom completely knew about Angelina’s children but pretended otherwise as part of the small talk. “They were so nice. We had a blast. That was a very fun night.”
The Tan Mishap
As part of her new Vogue feature, which includes a look back at her style evolution, Emma discussed her 2011 Golden Globes outfit—a gorgeous, peach-toned gown. She reflected with good humor on her beauty choices, specifically her bold spray tan.
“I look like one solid thumb,” the Superbad star joked. “It’s such a beautiful dress, but matching my tan to the dress? Big mistake. That’s what bums me out!”
Family Life and Motherhood
Beyond revisiting old red-carpet memories, Emma Stone also took a moment in the Vogue interview to speak about her personal life. The Oscar-winning actress shared rare comments about her 4-year-old daughter, Louise Jean, whom she shares with husband Dave McCary.
“There’s nothing I feel luckier about,” Emma gushed. “She’s the greatest gift of my life, for sure.”
As Vogue’s September cover star, Emma Stone proves once again why she remains one of Hollywood’s most beloved and relatable talents.
