The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has successfully completed the Al Jamayel Street Development Project, previously known as Garn Al Sabkha. The initiative included the construction of four bridges totaling 2,874 meters with a throughput capacity for 17,600 vehicles per hour. It also encompassed over seven kilometers of road enhancements, upgrades to surface intersections on a service road next to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and the implementation of street lighting, traffic signals, traffic management systems, rainwater drainage, and an irrigation network.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, emphasized that Al Jamayel Street is a vital corridor that connects Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, improving traffic movement via First Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street. This road spans seven kilometers with four lanes in each direction, accommodating approximately 16,000 vehicles per hour.
Significantly, the street benefits various residential areas such as Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Al Furjan, serving around 250,000 residents. The new developments have effectively reduced travel times, making commutes quicker to major destinations like Al Qusais, Deira, and Jebel Ali Port.
The four bridges opened in phases, with each designed to enhance traffic flow and mitigate congestion, establishing Al Jamayel Street as part of RTA’s broader master plan for Dubai’s transportation infrastructure.
