At a family camping zone in Al Ruwayyah, Dubai Police seized an SUV (sports utility vehicle) and a quad bike for doing stunts.
It was reported last week that five vehicles driven by young motorists doing stunts were confiscated by authorities. The confiscated vehicles will only be released upon paying an impoundment fee of up to Dh50,000.
Dubai Police’s director of traffic, Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, said earlier that reckless driving and loud vehicles endanger road users’ lives.
A driver in his early 20s said speeding gives him cheap thrills and makes him feel like he is in one of his favorite movies.
Last year, Dubai Police imposed more stringent fines on erring drivers. Reckless driving and jumping a red light are among the serious traffic offences that require motorists to pay Dh50,000 to release their impounded cars. If confiscated vehicles were used in illegal road races, a stiffer penalty of Dh100,000 would be imposed.
According to Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police, several amendments have been made to the Dubai traffic law to promote road safety and protect lives and property. Legal amendments support efforts to preserve lives. The amendments target reckless drivers.”
Young drivers’ friends and peers must show they are true and caring friends and encourage safe driving, a road safety expert emphasized.
