A charity dance night is set to bring the community together for a great cause in Oxfordshire. The event, which aims to support The Hummingbird Centre, a cancer support service based in Launton, will take place at Southmoor Village Hall near Abingdon on Saturday, August 30, from 8pm to 11pm.
Organized by modern jive dancer Sue Clark, who has over 20 years of experience, the event promises an evening filled with fun, socializing, and freestyle dancing to chart-topping music. Tickets are available at £15 in advance or £17 at the door, with all proceeds supporting the vital work of The Hummingbird Centre.
Why You Should Attend
Ms. Clark highlighted the importance of dance not just as entertainment but as a meaningful way to connect with others and momentarily leave behind life’s challenges. She shared, “Dancing is so good for you – whatever is happening in your life, you can go dancing for a few hours and focus on your footwork, leaving everything else behind. It’s very sociable and really good fun.”
The evening will begin with a fun dance class from 8pm to 8:30pm, perfect for beginners or anyone who wants to learn some modern jive moves. Attendees will then enjoy freestyle dancing to music from popular artists like Ed Sheeran, Michael Bublé, and Teddy Swims. The event also includes a bar and a raffle to add to the excitement.
The Hummingbird Centre: Making a Difference
The Hummingbird Centre is a lifeline for those facing cancer, offering support and community to its visitors. Ms. Clark, who volunteers at the centre, felt inspired to organize the event after witnessing its positive impact. Mechelle Harris, the founder of The Hummingbird Centre, expressed her gratitude for Sue’s efforts, saying, “Our guests have thoroughly enjoyed Sue’s dance sessions, so I’m sure a whole evening of dancing will be absolutely fantastic.”
The centre relies entirely on donations and volunteers to continue its operations, making events like this essential to its mission.
