Catherine Zeta-Jones has given fans a rare look into her private life with her husband, Michael Douglas, offering an intimate glimpse into their lives. In a recent interview, the Hollywood actress and star of Chicago opened up about her ‘comfortable’ yet ‘not excessive’ lifestyle that spans across their four homes.
Speaking to The Times, Catherine shared, “I know it sounds very jet-set, and I love to surround myself with beauty, but it’s not excessive, it’s very comfortable.” The couple divides their time between two homes in New York, one in Canada, and another in Spain, where they spend much of their time together.
Their Family and Past Challenges
Catherine, 55, and Michael, 78, share two grown children, Dylan, 25, and Carys, 22, while Michael has another son, Cameron, 46, from his first marriage. Reflecting on family life, the actress noted that Dylan and Carys were raised in Bermuda before the family relocated to New York in 2009.
The couple has faced their share of struggles, including a brief split in 2013 during Michael’s battle with tongue cancer and Catherine’s diagnosis of bipolar disorder. They reconciled in 2014 and have since spoken openly about working to maintain their strong bond. “Two celebrities together make 10. It’s just the way it is. There’s two versions of the story and there’s two make-believes,” she explained.
A Secret to Their 25-Year Marriage
Offering insight into their enduring 25-year marriage, Catherine revealed, “We don’t listen to the crap that is written about us, that’s the main thing. And we respect our space, we’re independent spirits.” Despite their 25-year age gap, the couple shares remarkable similarities, with Catherine adding, “We are very similar; we were born on the same day, 25 years apart. We’re not afraid to be verbal, to express ourselves. I wear everything on my sleeve and so does he, which is good.”
Michael Douglas’s Next Chapter
She also highlighted Michael’s evolution in recent years, noting his decision to step back from the spotlight after a long and illustrious career in Hollywood. “Michael has definitely earned the chance to slow down. But I never say never,” Catherine teased. “He’s his father’s son and loves to work — let’s just say, ‘retirement’ is a flexible concept.”
A Special Bond with Her Father-in-Law
Catherine also reflected on her relationship with Michael’s father, the late Kirk Douglas, who passed away at the age of 103 in 2020. “He was a flirty little thing,” Catherine said fondly. “He was wonderful and he was very fond of me, as I was of him. I miss him. They [Kirk and his wife, Anne] left a philanthropic legacy that was way beyond movies.”
The candid interview offered fans a heartfelt glimpse into the life and marriage of the Hollywood power couple, proving that love, respect, and individuality remain the key to their enduring partnership.
