Emma Niblett, 36, and her husband Dan, 40, felt trapped in a repetitive cycle in the UK, lacking enriching family experiences. To change this, they decided to rent out their home and relocated to Bali in August 2024. Now based there for three months, their sons, Noah, 8, and Isaac, 5, are attending a pop-up school where they are immersed in local culture and citizenship lessons.
The family has already traveled to Sydney, Australia, and explored Bali, with plans to visit New Zealand and Japan over Christmas. They intend to continue world schooling while traveling through Vietnam and Borneo. Emma and Dan have been able to work remotely, funding their travels while enjoying a significantly more affordable lifestyle, with expenses in Bali about 20% of what they were in the UK.
Emma noted that they can have delightful days out in Bali for $40-$50, compared to $100-$150 in the UK. Dinners at local markets can cost just $1 per person, alleviating financial concerns. The family enjoys more quality time together, free from the burdens of chores and excessive shopping. They document their journey on Instagram as the Niblett family.
